7 Ingredients to Avoid in Personal Care and Beauty Products - Infographic from Mother Earth Living |
Toxic Ingredients in Beauty and Personal Care Products
Most commercial personal care and beauty products often contain a long list of ingredients, some of which are toxic industrial chemicals that have been linked to cancer, immune and nervous system damage, liver and kidney damage, reproductive problems, respiratory tract, eye and skin irritation, premature aging and other long-term health concerns.
Safety to Human Health
Although the cosmetic, toiletry and perfumery industries maintain that these chemicals are either safe or at safe levels in their products, recent scientific research suggests otherwise.
First of all, it is estimated that the average person applies a high number of toxic chemicals found in everyday items like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant and lotions to their skin daily.
Secondly, it is known that the skin is not impenetrable and that toxic substances can be absorbed by the skin in varying degrees.
Thirdly, it is this continual, daily exposure to the cocktail of chemicals as well as to certain, specific substances or ingredients, that has many scientists worried.
