Natural Home Remedies for Gingivitis [Infographic] by RemedyLand |
Healthy gums means an absence of gingivitis (aka gum disease or peridontal disease). Gingivitis is a polymicrobial infection caused by the interaction between combinations of different bacteria and the body's immune system. Many of the various bacteria are found in the plaque that collects on the teeth and at the gum line.
Traditional treatment of peridontal disease includes scaling and root planing (i.e., clinical deep cleaning), laser therapy and surgery. But, of course, the first line of defense against gum disease is proper oral hygiene.
There is certainly no shortage of commercial oral care products for general oral hygiene and specialized products that promise to control and remove plaque - toothpastes, mouthwash and rinses, whitening gels, and so on. However, many of these products contain harmful ingredients and toxic substances that are absorbed into the body through the mouth and that have been linked to certain diseases, including some types of cancers.
For this reason, holistic healthcare professionals now recommend using natural toothpastes and mouth rinses for general oral care and herbal and other remedies to prevent and/or treat gum disease.
This infographic lists many natural ingredients and techniques that can be used to treat gingivitis at home.
